PHILLIES NEWS

After a thrilling sweep of the Dodgers the Phils welcomed the Mets to the Bank tonight to begin a key series with Mets, which will determine the leader in the NL East coming into labor day weekend. Jamie Moyer got the start and was roughed up allowing 6 runs on 9 hits in just 3 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils' bats got off to yet another slow start, with o runs in those same 3 innings. So they would need yet another late rally to pull this one out. Now onto the game. In the top of the 1st, Jose Reyes tripled and scored and Fernando Tatis singled in a run for a 2-0 Met's lead. In the top of the 2nd, Damian Easley slammed a solo homer for a 3-0 lead. In the top of the 3rd, Tatis slugged a 3 run homer for a 6-0 lead. In the top of the 4th, Easley tripled and scored on a fielder's choice for a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, the Phils got on the board as Pedro Feliz slapped a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the 5th, Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard each crushed 2 run homers to cut the lead to 7-5. In the bottom of the 8th, JRoll singled in a run to cut the lead to 7-6. In the bottom of the 9th, Eric Bruntlett lined a 2 out double to tie it at 7. Finally in the bottom of the 13th, with no one left in the bullpen or on the bench, Chris Coste slapped a line drive over the head of Carlos Beltran to end it dramatically in an 8-7 Phils win. So the Phils move to 73-59 overall and now lead the NL East once again by .5 games.
