The Phils continued their series with the Cubs this afternoon. Brett Myers got the start and produced another solid outing, allowing just 2 runs on 11 hits in 7 strong innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phil's bats got off to another slow start and would need to pick it up late to pull this one out. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 2nd, Geovany Soto singled in a run for a 1-0 Cub's lead. In the top of the 5th Jayson Werth slammed a solo shot to knot it up at 1. In the top of the 6th, Werth slapped a 2 run single for a 3-1 Phil's lead. In the top of the 8th, Ryan Howard and Werth each slugged solo homers for a 5-1 lead. In the bottom of the 8th, Aramis Ramirez singled in a run to cut the lead to 5-2. Finally in the bottom of the 9th, Brad Lidge retired the Cubs in order to close out the 5-2 win. So the Phils move to 74-62 overall, now just a game behind the Mets in the NL East.
