Coming into tonight the Phils had really been struggling to not only score runs, but simply collect a hit. That was not the case tonight. Kyle Kendrick and wasn't great, but for once the Phils didn't need him to be. He was touched up for 4 runs on 7 hits and lasted only into the 6th inning, but believe it or not that was enough for his 9th win of the season. In fact when he left after 5 the Phils were actually leading 6-4 thanks to bashing 3 run homers in back to back innings.
With one out in the 2nd, Brian Schneider slammed a 3 run homer to put the Phils up 3-1. One inning later with 2 on and nobody out Ryan Howard crushed another 3 run homer for a 6-1 lead. After hanging onto a 6-4 lead through 6 behind Kyle and Chad Durbin, the Carlos Ruiz helped the Phils tack on a couple more in the 7th with a 2 out RBI single for an 8-4 lead. That was more than enough for J.C Romero, Ryan Madson, and Brad Lidge to combine to close it out the rest of the way. So again when they needed to the Phils got the win. Unfortunately so did everyone else and the Phils remain 3 games back in the NL East and 1.5 up in the wild card race.
