PHILLIES NEWS

Naturally after a 12-11 slug fest at Coor the Phils returned to the Bank tonight and engaged in a pitcher's duel. Luckily Cole Hamels was up for the challenge tossing 7 scoreless innings on just 3 hits while striking out 7. He did get into one jam in the 7th with runners on 1st and second and nobody out. He got out of it though with a fly out, a foul out, and finally a strikeout of Alcides Escobar, all on changeups.

The Phils meanwhile, didn't much more luck in the running scoring department. Carlso Ruiz grounded into a fielder's choice with 1 out in the 2nd inning to push across the Phils only run, as Chris Capuano held them to just 1 run on 4 hits over 5 strong innings. So it was 1-0 Phils heading into the 8th inning. There Jose Contreras retired the side in order to preserve the lead. Then in the 9th Ryan Madson did the same after Prince Fielder just missed a game tying homer. With the win, the Phils' 77th of the season and losses by the Braves and Giants the Phils move just 1 game back in the NL East and 3 games up in the wild card race.
