After a sloppy loss to the Bruins the Flyers really needed to come back strong tonight against a hot Atlanta Thrashers team and they did. Sergei Bobrovsky got the start in goal and solid again stopping 27 of the 29 shots he faced. Meanwhile Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux each had a goal and an assist and Danny Briere scored a huge goal early in the 3rd period when the outcome was still very much in doubt. Again it was all and all a very fine effort by the Orange and Black and a good sign for the team moving forward.
The scoring did not start in this one until late in the 2nd period. There with the Flyers down 1-0, Jody Shelley registered his first goal of the season to knot it up at 1. Then Giroux and James Van Reimsdyk teamed up to assist Kimmo Timonen for a 2-1 lead. After Atlanta tied it up at 2 with just seconds left in the period, the two teams went scoreless again for much of the 3rd period. Finally with 8 minutes to play Ville Leino and Scott Hartnell setup Briere for a 3-2 lead. A few minutes later Carter and Carle helped to setup Giroux for a 4-2 lead. Finally Carter deposited an empty netter to cap off another 5-2 win.
