FLYERS NEWS

The Flyers winning ways were derailed a little this afternoon in Boston against the Bruins. For the 4th game in a row Antero Niittymaki got the start and came up with 28 saves, but it wasn't enough. Late in the first period, Jeff Carter scored on the power play for a 1-0 Flyers lead. In the 2nd period. Marc Savard and Marco Sturm each scored on the power play for a 2-1 Boston lead. Early in the 3rd period, Peter Schaefer made it 3-1 Bruins and for a moment all hope seemed lost. Then the Flyers battled back as Scott Hartnell and Daniel Briere each scored down the stretch to knot the score at 3 and force the game into overtime. Unfortunately, just 43 seconds into the overtime period, Aaron Ward scored unassisted to win it for Boston 4-3. So the Flyers drop to 22-15-5, but remain in 3rd place in the Atlantic division.
