The Phils continued their series with the Braves tonight. J.A Happ got the start in place of Kyle Kendrick, who was given the night off reportedly, due to mental and physical fatigue, and after the thumping he took in his last two starts, there's no wonder why. Happ responded with a superb outing, tossing 6 scoreless innings on just 3 hits. Meanwhile, the Phils bat's jumped out early with 4 runs in the 1st inning, so Happ would need the bullpen to protect his first win. Now onto the game. In the top of the 1st, Mr.September struck again as Ryan Howard slapped an RBI single, Jayson Werth scored a 2nd run on an error by Brian Mcann, and Carlos Ruiz slapped a bases loaded single for 2 more runs and a 4 -0 lead. In the top of the 8th, "the Bat" Pat Burrell singled, and was replaced on the basepaths by Eric Bruntlett who scored a few batters later on a fielder's choice for a 5-0 lead. In the top of the 9th, Matt Stairs slammed his 1st homer as a phil for a 6-0 lead. Finally in the bottom of the 9th, after allowing their only run of the night, Clay Condrey closed out the Braves and the 6-1 Phils win. So the Phils move to 85-67 overall and remain .5 games up in the NL East.

FLYERS NEWS
Mike Richards was named the Flyer's captain for the upcoming season, supplanting veteran defenseman Derian Hatcher with the Captain's C on his chest. There is no question he is the most talented player on the team at this point, at least until Simon Gagne can figure out how to stay healthy, and there is no one who is more deserving of the honor.

PHILLIES NEWS
Coming off a dramatic sweep of the Brewers, the Phils traveled to Atlanta to begin a 3 game series, in the suddenly very comfy confines of Turner field where they had won 6 in a row coming in. Jamie Moyer got the start and was roughed up for 6 runs on 6 hits in just 5 and 2/3rd's innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils bat's jumped out early with 4 runs in the first 4 innings. So they hung with the Braves early and would need some late heroics to pull this one out. Now onto the game. In the top of the 3rd, Chase Utley doubled in one run, and Jayson Werth slammed a 2 run homer for a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, Brian Mcann singled in one run ,and Casey Kotchman followed a a couple batters later with a 2 run single to knot it up at 3. In the top of the 4th, Carlos Ruiz slugged a solo homer for a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Jeff Franceour singled and scored on a fielder's choice, and Kelly Johnson slapped a 2 run single to give the Braves their first lead at 7-4. In the top of the 7th, "Mr.September" Ryan Howard used his blazing speed to leg out a triple(okay so he actually lined a ball off the right-field wall that bounced about 20 feet away from any fielders and strolled into 3rd, but it was still impressive) and knock in one run, and then he scored on a single by the "Flyin Hawaiian" Shane Victorino to cut the lead to 7-6. In the top of the 8th, Mr.September struck again, as Howard crushed a 2 out 2 run homer for an 8-7 lead, can you say MVP. From there Ryan Madson blanked the Braves in the bottom of the inning, and Brad Lidge escaped a 2 out bases loaded jam in the 9th to close out the 8-7 win. So with the Mets losing again tonight the Phils move to 84-67 overall, now .5 games up on the Mets in the NL East.

EAGLES NEWS
What a night it almost was. With about 10 minutes to play and the Eagles leading 37-34 and in Cowboy's territory following a long kick return by Quintin Demps, it appeared as if tonight might just go down in Eagles' lore as one of the greatest moments in team history and the best Monday night football game of all time. Instead on an apparent trick play with a receiver in the backfield, Donovan Mcnabb botched a hand off to Brian Westbrook, and Dallas recovered the fumble. Tony Blomo er, Romo then drove his team to the eventual winning score in a 41-37 heartbreaker. Mcnabb had a brilliant night with several vintage great escapes, while completing 25-37 passes for 281 yds and a TD. Brian WestBrook shown equally bright with 102 all purpose yards and all 3 Eagles' TDs. Finally Desean Jackson had another superb night with 6 catches for 110 yards. Defensively, it was not a good night for the Birds, as although they limited the Dallas running game and held T.O to just 3 catches for 89 yards, they could not get to Romo often enough as he threw for 312 yards and 3 TD, mostly to Jason Witten who hauled in 7 catches for 110 yards. The Eagles got it all started with a long drive that resulted in an Akers' field goal after Jackson dropped a pass that would have given the Eagles a 1st and goal. Three minutes later Romo hooked up with T.O for a 72 yard TD pass and a 7-3 lead. The Eagles responded with another long drive but again settled for a an Aker's field goal cutting the lead to 7-6. On the ensuing kickoff Felix Jones ran 98 yards untouched for a TD and a 14-6 lead. After a defensive stop, it looked as though Dallas would put it away early in the 2nd quarter but Romo threw wildly into the arms of Asante Samuel. A few plays later Westbrook plunged in from 6 yards out to cut the lead to 14-13. Just seconds later on the next Dallas drive Romo fumbled into the endzone and Chris Gocong recovered it for a 20-13 Eagles lead. The ensuing Dallas drive resulted in a 4 yd TD pass from Romo to T.O for a 21-20 Dallas lead. A few minutes later Mcnabb appeared to throw a 70 + yard td pass of his own to Jackson, but in his joy Jackson threw the ball over his shoulder at the 1. Fortunately no Dallas players picked it up and the Eagles got it at the 1 and a play later Westbrook went over the top for a 27-21 lead. Another long Eagles' drive at the end the half, capped off by another spectacular Mcnabb first down run, resulted in another Aker's field goal for a 30-21 lead, not bad for halftime. However Dallas had other ideas and after a 42 yard completion to Witten, Nick Folk booted a 51 yard field goal to cut the halftime lead to 30-24. In the 2nd half Dallas struck first late in the 3rd quarter on a 17 yd TD pass from Romo to Marion Barber for a 31-30 lead. The Eagles responded with another long drive capped off by a WestBrook TD run for a 37-31 lead. A few minutes later Nick Folk capped off a Dallas drive with a 47 yard field goal to cut the lead to 37-34. Then Demps unloaded a return to the Dallas 40 and the Eagles appeared poised for victory, until the fumble that will live in infamy occurred. From there Romo marched Dallas down to the 1 where Barber plunged in for a 41-37 lead. The Eagles had a couple opportunities to rally to victory from there. First Mcnabb fired just a little too high to a wide open Westbrook on 3rd and long deep in their own territory. Then with about 2 minutes 30 seconds to play, they got it back for a final stand. After driving to midfield, a couple sacks of Mcnabb left them with 4th and 17 just inside the 40 and only a minute and 10 seconds to play. Instead of going deep Mcnabb threw short as the Eagles attempted a hook and lateral that failed miserably, allowing Dallas to run out the clock. So the Birds are 1-1 with a lot of season left, and after a performance like this against a team like Dallas , they should be considered one of the top teams in the NFC.

PHILLIES NEWS
Coming into today the Phils again needed to win both sides of a doubleheader in order to pull into a 1st place tie in a playoff race, this time the wild card race with Brewers. In the first game, Joe Blanton got the start and went 7 strong innings, allowing just 3 runs on 5 hits. Meanwhile, the Phils did likewise to Dave Bush through 6 innings, so it would come down to some late game heroics. Now onto the game. In the top of the 1st, Ray Durham slammed a 2 run homer for a 2-0 Brewer's lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Chase Utley doubled and scored on a fielder's choice to cut the lead to 2-1. Finally in the top of the 9th, Brad Lidge closed the door again retiring the Brewers in order for the 7-3 win. So heading into game 2 the Phils were 1 game behind the Brew Crew. In game 2 Brett Myers got the start and tossed another brilliant complete game, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits. Meanwhile, the Phils bat's roughed up Jeff Suppan for 6 runs on 8 hits so it was a pretty one sided affair. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 1st, Jimmy Rollins doubled and scored on a fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, Myer's himself singled in one run and JRoll slapped a 2 run single for a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, "the Bat" Pat Burrell crushed a solo homer and Jayson Werth forced in a run with a bases loaded walk for a 6-0 lead. In the top of the 7th, the Brew Crew finally got on the board on a solo shot by Prince Fielder, cutting the lead to 6-1. Myer's took it from there finally retiring the Brewers in order in the 9th to close out the 6-1 win. So the Phils move to 83-67 overall, now tied with the Brewers for 1st in the wildcard and just 1 game behind the Mets in the NL East.

The Phils were set to continue their series with the Brew Crew tonight, but rain delayed the start of the game, and apparently they don't start games at midnight anymore, so the game was posponed until sunday, as yes, a part of yet another day night doubleheader. So it should be another interesting Sunday.

PHILLIES NEWS
After a poor series with the Marlins, the Phils opened a huge series with the wild card leading Milwaukee Brewers tonight at the bank. Jamie Moyer, got the start on short rest and tossed 5 and 2/3rd's clutch innings, allowing just 3 runs on 4 hits. Meanwhile, the Phils jumped out early with 4 runs in the 1st 4 innings. So they would need the bullpen to hold the lead. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 1st, Ryan Howard slammed a 2 run homer for a 2-0 Phil's lead. So the Phils drop to 79-67 overall, now 3.5 games behind the Mets and in a world of trouble.

PHILLIES NEWS
After a solid series against the Mets, that didn't quite end the way they hoped it would , the Phils returned home to begin a tough series with the Florida Marlins. Joe Blanton got the start and pitched well enough to keep the Phils in it, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils actually got off to a quick start with 5 runs in the first 2 innings. So they had the early lead and would need the bullpen to hold it. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 1st, Chase Utley singled in one run, and Ryan Howard doubled in a second run for a 2-0 lead. In the top of the 2nd, the Marlins loaded the bases, and bleeded out a couple runs on a sac fly and a fielder's choice, to knot it at 2. After yesterday's rain out the Phils came into today needing to win both sides of a double header to pull even again with Mets. In the first game Jamie Moyer got the start and shutdown the Mets through 7 innings on just 2 hits. Meanwhile, the Phils jumped out early with 6 runs in the 1st 4 innings. In the top of the 4th, Greg Dobbs slugged a 3 run homer and Jimmy Rollins doubled in another run for a 6-0 lead. Finally in the bottom of the 9th Ryan Madson, and J.C Romero combined to close out the 6-2 win, pulling the Phils to within a game of the Mets. In game 2 Cole Hamels got the start, and unfortunately he didn't bring his best stuff with him, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits in just 5 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils started slow with just 2 runs in those 5 innings. So they would need a late rally to pull this one out. Now onto the game. So after all that the Phils are 78-65 overall and 2 games behind the Mets in the NL East.
EAGLES NEWS
What a start to the season for the Birds, as they blew away the Rams 38-3. Donovan Mcnabb looked like his old self, completing 21 of 33 passes for 361 yards and 3 TDs. The rookie Desean Jackson, suddenly thrust into the spotlight with injuries to both Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown, looked like a seasoned pro with 6 catches for 106 yards, while Greg Lewis added 5 catches for 104 yards, and Hank Baskett pulled in 2 catches for 102 yards and a TD. Finally, Brian WestBrook was well, Brian Wesbrook, with 19 rushes, for 91 yards and a TD. Defensively, no one player stood out, but the numbers speak for themselves as, the Rams were held to just 166 yards of offense and 3 points. So it was a total team effort and a good one at that. The Eagles jumped out to a quick start, with a pair of 80 yard drives, punctuated by a 1yd TD pass to Westbrook, and a 5 yd TD pass to L.J Smith respectively. Late in the 2nd quarter Baskett hauled in 90 yd TD pass from Mcnabb, for a 21-0 halftime lead. In the 3rd quarter, Tony Hunt plunged in from a yard out for a 28-0 lead and a 23 yard Akers field goal gave the Birds a 31-0 lead heading into the 4th quarter. There after Westbrook ran it in from 6 yards out, to finish off another long drive, for a 38-0 lead, the Rams finally got on the board, as Josh Brown nailed a 46 yard field goal to cut it to 38-3. However, it was too little too late. So the Birds are 1-0 and already look to be better this season, than they were last season.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils and the Mets got rained out today, and will now play a day night doubleheader tomorrow. It should be an interesting day. That said, the only thing to report for the Phils is that Tad Iguchi returned to the Phils today as a free agent, and just like last year he'll spend most of his time pinch hitting. Although he struggled most of this season as the Padre's starting 2nd baseman, he should be a valuable asset for the Phils as they go down the final stretch of the season.

PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils opened a showdown weekend series with the Mets at Shea tonight. Brett Myers got the start and tossed a masterful 3 hit shutout for 8 innings. Meanwhile, Mike Pelfrey was equally tough for the Mets, allowing just 3 runs on 4 hits in 7 innings. So it would come down to the bullpen to hold the lead yet again. Now onto the game. In the top of the 7th, Greg Dobbs slammed a 2 run homer for a 3-0 lead. Finally in the top of the 9th, despite allowing a couple of hits Brad Lidge put the Mets away for the 3-0 win. So the Phils drop to 76-64 overall, now 3 games behind the Mets in the NL East.

After toughing out a series split with the Cubs, the Phils traveled to Washington to start a potentially much easier series with the Nationals. Kyle Kendrick got the start and was touched up for 6 runs on 8 hits in just 4 innings of work. Meanwhile, the Phils didn't have a single run, let alone a hit heading into the 6th inning so they need another late comeback to pull out this one. Now onto the game. In the bottom of the 1st, Lastings Milledge slapped a 2 run single for a 2-0 Nat's lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Willie Harris tripled in one run, Cristian Guzman doubled in a 2nd run, and Ryan Zimmeran slammed a 2 run homer for a 6-0 lead. In the top of the 6th, Ryan Howard doubled in one run, then some charity from the Nationals, a walk and a hit by pitch, with the bases loaded gave the Phils 2 more runs, cutting the lead to 6-3, but they could take no further advantage of the charity. In the bottom of the 7th, Jesus Flores slapped an RBI double for a 7-3 lead. In the top of the 9th, Jimmy Rollins slugged a solo homer to cut the lead to 7-4, but the Phils would get no closer, eventually succumbing to the Nats by that score. So the Phils drop to 75-63 overall and now 2 games behind the Mets in the NL East.

Meanwhile, Jayson Werth continued his torrid play against the Cubs, powering the Phils to 5 runs through 6 innings. So it would be up to the bullpen to hold down the fort. Now onto the game. In the top of the 1st, Ryan Howard singled in one run, and Werth slapped a 2 run double, all with 2 outs for a 3-0 Phil's lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, Ronny Cedeno and the pitcher, Sean Marshall, each singled in a run to cut the lead to 3-2. In the top of the 5th, Werth slugged a solo homer for a 4-2 lead. EAGLES NEWS
The Eagles made the final cuts to their roster today, and there were no real surprises, other than the fact that Jerome Mcdougle failed to make the team after a solid camp and preseason, but really there was no room for him here, but he'll latch on with a new team. Other notable decisions include Tony Hunt being named the starting fullback, and Matt Schobel sneaking in behind L.J Smith and Brent Celek, as the 3rd tight end.
PHILLIES NEWS
The Phils continued their series with the Cubs tonight. Joe Blanton got the start, and pitched well, allowing just 2 runs on 2 hits in 5 and 2/3rd's innings of work. EAGLES NEWS
The Eagles finished their preseason today, with an especially meaningless game against the Jets, with most if not all of the starters riding the pine for the night. Ultimately, the Jets got the win 27-20, making the Eagles final preseason record 2-2. As for the play on the field, there were some positive performances. Offensively, Kevin Kolb started and played a good first half completing 13 of 21 passes for 138 yards, while leading 3 scoring drives. Defensively, DE Bryan Smith, the Eagles 3rd round pick in last year's draft, solidified a spot on the roster with 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks. LB Joe Mays led the team with 12 tackles on the night. Finally, Jerome Mcdougle had another solid night with 3 tackles and a sack, but with likely no room left on the roster for him, Mcdougle could be headed else where. Anyhow that ends another thrilling Eagles preseason, and now it is finally time to get ready for another exciting season of Eagles' football. All I can say is E!,A!,G!,L!,E!,S! Eagles.
